A little bit more...
Here, we will talk about what a sauna is, and who can use a sauna.
What is a Sauna?
Sauna use has been a practice for thousands of years. There is evidence to suggest that their origins in Finland date back to 7000BC! There's no wonder they have been around so long with the amazing benefits they offer.

A sauna is a small room, lined with wood, which is heated to high temperatures (ideally between 77 and 90 degrees Celsius). They can be heated by wood burning stove, electric or infrared. Sauna Cwm Cynfal is heated with a wood burning stove which has rocks on the top to pour water over so you can create steam to adjust the humidity.

Use of Essential oils:

You can use essential oils in saunas for added aromatherapy benefits. Just add your preferred oil to water that you pour on the stones to fill the whole room with luscious fragrance. One of the most used essential oils in a sauna is eucalyptus which can help clear the sinuses which can help leave you feeling clear and energised. We have a few essential oils for you to use at Sawna Cwm Cynfal but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Precautions
Sauna use is, unfortunately, not for everyone. There are a number of things to consider before you use a sauna. Speak with your healthcare professional before beginning a sauna practice, especially if you have any chronic health conditions. It is not recommended for children under the age of 16 to use the sauna, so you must be 16 or over to be able to book a session at Sawna Cwm Cynfal.
Dehydration:
The heat of a sauna will make you sweat and lose electrolytes. Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after using a sauna. Do not spend prolonged periods of time in a sauna as this can increase your risk of dehydration. Severe dehydration is a medical emergency. You should leave the sauna immediately if you:
-
Feel dizzy or lightheaded
-
Have a headache
-
Get very thirsty
Adding electrolytes to your water can help prevent dehydration as it replaces the salts you lose through sweating.
